The Yates County Legislature approved a resolution on Monday that calls on New York’s Congressional Delegation to protect its residents from “the most damaging and disproportionate federal Medicaid funding cuts being considered in Budget Reconciliation at the federal level.”

The Senate and House are reportedly finalizing a Budget Resolution that includes funding cuts of up to $880 billion over 10 years to Medicaid. County Legislator Patrick Killen said he appreciated the wording of the local resolution.

The county reports that 20 percent of its residents and their families rely on Medicaid for health care services. Seven million New Yorkers receive their health care from Medicaid, including two million who benefit from the federal Medicaid match increase and income eligibility expansion under the Affordable Care Act.
