Yates County is joining communities across the country in “Operation Green Light,” a national initiative honoring U.S. veterans by shining green lights on buildings and landmarks during Veterans Day week, November 3rd through 11th.
As part of the effort, the front of the old Yates County Courthouse will be illuminated in green, and the Village of Penn Yan will light up the Main Street bridge to show appreciation for local veterans.
County officials say the initiative isn’t just about lighting up buildings — it’s also about raising awareness of the services and benefits available to veterans through the Yates County Veterans’ Services Office.
Residents who want to take part can pick up a free green light bulb at the Veterans’ Services Agency office, located at 417 Liberty Street, Suite 2120, in Penn Yan, during regular business hours.
The county is encouraging everyone to help turn Yates County green this week and to share photos on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLightYC.
