Cornell Cooperative Extension of Yates County is seeking board members.
Extension is a dynamic education system that extends Cornell University’s land-grant programs to citizens across New York State. With a presence in every county and New York City, CCE puts research into practice by providing high-value educational programs and university-backed resources that help solve real-life problems, transforming and improving New York families, farms, businesses, and communities.
Stakeholder involvement is fundamental to all CCE’s work in New York State. Volunteer Boards of Directors provide governance for local and regional Cooperative Extension Associations, with oversight from Cornell. Members of local boards represent all citizens’ interests who might benefit from Extension’s work in that area. Like other community-based organizations, CCE Board members have fiduciary responsibility for the Extension Association, and they:
- Set organizational and program direction.
- Engage in strategic planning.
- Ensure necessary resources
- Employ and supervise an Executive Director
- Provide oversight
- Set local policy
CCE-Yates County has an active and involved Board of Directors, and we are currently seeking individuals who are interested in serving as members of this vital group. Our association serves all residents of Yates County in areas like agriculture, agricultural education, youth and family development, environmental sustainability, nutrition/food safety, and healthy communities.
This is a three-year commitment, with the possibility of re-election for an additional term. Board volunteers must be residents of Yates County at least 18 years of age. Meetings/Committee meetings are held monthly at a mutually agreed-upon date and time. Board members must attend meetings and participate in Ad Hoc committees as needed.
Elections for board members will be held at the annual meeting on Thursday, December 5th (location and time TBA). Extension strongly encourage individuals who bring diverse perspectives and support diversity and equality to apply. Your unique experiences and viewpoints will enrich our board and help us better serve the community.
