SHARE NOW

A 75-year-old Monroe County woman is recovering after falling nearly 90 feet into a gully in Yates County and spending the night alone before calling for help.

The Yates County 911 Center received a call just before 8 Friday morning from the woman, who said she had fallen while hiking in Clark’s Gully the day before and had been separated from her phone.

She managed to locate her phone in the early morning hours of Friday and called for help. Using GPS from the device, rescuers from multiple agencies were able to find her and extract her safely from the steep terrain.

The Pittsford woman was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she is being treated for possible head and neck injuries, along with exposure from being outdoors overnight.

Assisting the Yates County Sheriff’s Office on the scene were:  Naples Fire, Naples Ambulance, Dundee Fire Rope Rescue, Middlesex Fire Rope Rescue, Rushville Fire, Yates County Office of Emergency Management, and Mercy Flight.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
