Woman, Dog Struck By Car in Yates County

SHARE NOW

A Penn Yan woman suffered an injury to her lower leg after she and her dog were struck by a car Sunday night on Pre-Emption Road in Yates County.

An investigation determined that 28-year-old Elizabeth Schomp and her dog were walking on the road, near Havens Corners Road, shortly before 9 o’clock, when they were hit by a car heading southwest. Schomp was taken to Geneva General Hospital for treatment of her injury.  The driver of the car, 20-year-old Shawn Martin, of Weedsport, was not injured.

Unfortunately, the dog did not survive the accident.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Benton Fire Department, Penn Yan Ambulance, Yates County OES, and Yates County EMS.
