The nationwide blood shortage has reached a critical level. Michael Tedesco with the American Red Cross said it’s not unusual to see a dip in donations during the winter months but they’ve seen a bigger-than-usual decline in donors.
Over the last twenty years, the number of people donating is down 40 percent. Tedesco says the pandemic’s impact is still being felt.
There will be two blood drives Wednesday afternoon in Yates County. The first will take place at the Himrod Fire Department from 12:30 until 6 with the second one occurring from 1 until 6 at the Benton Fire Department. On Thursday, a blood drive will be held from 1:30 until 630 at Branchport Fire Department.
