A Bath man has died following a late-night house fire Saturday in the Village of Bath.
Emergency crews were dispatched just before 11 p.m. to a reported structure fire at 23 Warden Street. First arriving fire units encountered heavy fire conditions in multiple rooms of the two-story home.
Bath police officers who arrived ahead of firefighters entered the house and located an unconscious man inside. Officers removed him from the home, and he was taken by Bath Ambulance and Steuben County Advanced Life Support to Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police confirmed Sunday that the victim, 35-year-old Derek Fisher, later died from his injuries.
In a post on social media, Fisher’s employer, Goodrich Autoworks, said his dog also died in the fire.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Bath VA Fire, Hammondsport, Kanona, Savona, Painted Post, Bath Ambulance, and Steuben County EMS. The cause of the fire has not been released.
