Watkins Glen Mayor Laurie DeNardo has released a public statement addressing recent questions surrounding her absence from some village activities, citing a personal health matter that has required medical attention in recent weeks.
In a message to residents on the village’s Facebook page, Mayor DeNardo described the opportunity to serve as mayor as “one of the greatest honors” of her life and emphasized her ongoing commitment to transparency and communication.
“While it has necessitated a temporary adjustment to my schedule, I want to assure you that I remain actively engaged in the duties of this office and fully committed to the well-being of our community,” DeNardo said.
She acknowledged that the lack of public information may have led to speculation but made clear that she continues to work closely with the Village Board of Trustees, staff, and community partners. “The business of the Village is moving forward, and I am here—focused, involved, and optimistic,” she said.
Mayor DeNardo also thanked residents for their support and understanding as she balances recovery with her responsibilities as mayor. “Robin and I are grateful for your encouragement and for the respect of our privacy during this time,” she added.
Despite recent challenges, DeNardo said she remains committed to the work ahead, closing her message with a note of resolve: “I remain as committed as ever to seeing it through—with clarity, strength, and heart.”
