The village of Penn Yan is going out to bid to replace the water main on Main Street from Elm to Clinton Streets. According to the village’s Director of Public Works Melissa Gerhardt, the project is part of the village’s ongoing efforts to proactively replace aging infrastructure.
Following the water main project, the road will be paved from Elm to Clinton Streets. The water main work is anticipated to begin in April and is expected to be completed in an estimated six-to-eight weeks.
The project will be broken into two phases:
PHASE 1 – Elm Street to Maiden Lane:
The first phase will involve Elm Street to Maiden Lane. Due to the number of services and road cuts required in this section, the road will be closed while the water main is replaced from Elm Street to Maiden Lane. The road will be closed for construction during the week and opened for through traffic during the weekends. Phase 1 of the project is anticipated to last 4-6 weeks*. Detours will be posted for local traffic and municipal parking lots will remain open. NYSEG will also be working alongside this phase of the project to replace the gas mains within the sidewalk on each side of Main Street from Elm Street to Maiden Lane. NYSEG will be coordinating with property owners for this work.
PHASE 2 – Maiden Lane to Clinton Street:
The second phase will not require a full road closure. The road will be opened to one lane of traffic and Main Street from Maiden Lane to Elm Street will be fully open.
The village will post updates regarding the project on the Village of Penn Yan Department of Public Works Facebook page and website. Should you have any questions, please contact Melissa Gerhardt or Brett McMichael at 315-536-3374.
