7:30 P.M. UPDATE:
One person is dead after being involved in a three-car accident on State Route 14 near the Dundee-Glenora Road in Yates County.
The initial investigation by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office indicates 65-year-old James Schroeder, of Jermyn, Pennsylvania, was driving north just after one Wednesday afternoon when he rear-ended a second northbound car driven by 80-year-old Dennis Pabis, of Throop, Pennsylvania. The impact sent the Pabis vehicle into the southbound lane where it struck a car driven by 78-year-old Phillip Crooks, of Lakemont. Crooks was extricated from his car by the Dundee Fire Department and was taken to Schuyler Hospital for minor injuries along with his passenger, Pamela Beers, of Lakemont. Pabis was taken by ambulance to Schuyler Hospital and was pronounced dead. Schroeder was checked over at the scene and refused transport.
The Yates County Accident Reconstruction Team is still looking into the accident, which shut down that portion of Route 14 for about two-and-a-half hours and charges are pending.
In addition to Dundee Fire and Ambulance responding to the scene, Yates EMS, Schuyler EMS, Yates County Office of Emergency Services, New York State Police, and New York State DEC all responded.
Route 14 at the Dundee-Glenora Road was shut down for about two-and-a-half hours on Wednesday afternoon following a three-car accident.
Dundee Fire and Ambulance along with Schuyler Ambulance responded to the scene near Glenora Wine Cellars just after one o’clock. According to scanner reports, one person had to be freed from the wreckage. The roadway was opened back up by law enforcement at around 3:45 p.m.
At this time we do not have any information on injuries or what caused the accident.
