UPDATE: Cause of Potter House Fire Determined

SHARE NOW

It was a busy morning for Yates County firefighters who battled a house fire in Potter.

The call of smoke in the basement at the one-story home at 1251 East Swamp Road came in at around 8:40. Penn Yan and Benton firefighters provided manpower and Branchport-Keuka Park units responded to help bring water to the scene. The fire was put out just after 9 and everyone inside of the home was able to get out safely.

The fire was contained to the southeast corner of the basement and the Yates County Fire Investigation Team determined it was caused by a heating lamp that fell over in the basement.

No injuries were reported.

The Yates County Office of Emergency Services and Penn Yan Ambulance responded to the scene. Middlesex and Rushville Fire Departments were placed on standby.
