Two Yates County Deputy Sheriffs are being honored for what is being hailed as their exemplary conduct in the line of duty.
Deputy Andrew Garren is recognized for two calls for service that he handled. Deputy Garren was dispatched to a call of a man bleeding and he applied life-saving first aid until ambulance personnel arrived on the scene. A short time later, Deputy Garren responded to a check the welfare call and found an unresponsive person due to a carbon monoxide leak in her home. Deputy Garren is credited with taking quick action by calling additional first responders to the scene and ensuring medical care was provided in assistance with fire and ambulance personnel.
Sgt. Derek Chisom is recognized for his leadership and vehicle and traffic enforcement. The Sergeant recently initiated a traffic stop for speeding, that resulted in the arrest of an individual for driving while intoxicated, weapons charges, and other pending charges. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Chisom’s actions resulted in a dangerous operator being removed from the roads that night.
