SHARE NOW

Voters in two Tompkins County school districts rejected proposed budgets on Tuesday.

In Ithaca, 70 percent of residents who came to the polls voted against the $168 million spending plan.  The vote was 2,059 in favor of the budget and 4,916 against. Residents also defeated two propositions, the first was for the appropriation and expenditure of capital reserve funds and the second was for the proposed 2024 capital project.

The Ithaca school board met last night for a Facilities Committee Work Session, and a Finance Committee Work Session while also meeting to certify the budget vote and election results.

In Newfield, 52 percent voted down the $25.4 million budget.

Both districts will now return to the drawing board and come up with a second spending plan that will be voted on again on June 18th.
