Tractor Trailer Accident Closes Yates County Road, Brings Down Power Lines

SHARE NOW

State Route 54A, between Guyanoga and East Valley roads in the town of Jerusalem, was closed for over 12 hours following a tractor-trailer crash.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office reported that 66-year-old Alexei Plavan, of Virginia, lost control of his big rig just before midnight Saturday morning. The truck overturned and struck the gas pumps at Branchport Auto. The accident also brought down power lines and caused a fuel leak from the truck.

The initial investigation revealed Plavan was traveling east on Italy Hill Road but failed to stop at the intersection with Guyanoga Road, losing control while attempting a turn. He was treated for head injuries at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital.

Charges are pending against Plavan.

The following agencies responded to the scene: Branchport Keuka Park and Dresden Fire Departments, New York State Department of Transportation, NYSEG, Yates County Ambulance, the state DEC, New York State Police, and the Yates County Office of Emergency Management
