A Tompkins County man is dead following a two-car accident in Newfield on Sunday.
At around 11 Sunday morning, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the New York State Police, Newfield Fire Company, and Bangs Ambulance, responded to a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection of West Danby Road (Route 34/96) and Decker Road in the Town of Newfield.
Investigators say a black 2019 Toyota 4-Runner was traveling south on West Danby Road when a 2020 Honda CRV, traveling east on Decker Road, attempted to cross the intersection and entered the Toyota’s path. The Toyota struck the Honda on the driver’s side, sending both vehicles into a nearby yard.
The Toyota’s occupant was flown to a trauma center by Guthrie Air Medevac and has since been released. The driver of the Honda CRV, 31-year-old Shaquille M. Stuttle of Newfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to document the crash. Investigators say the investigation is ongoing, and final determinations will be made after reviewing the reconstruction analysis.
