Tompkins County Man Convicted of Menacing a Police Officer

A Tompkins County man faces up to eight years in prison after being found guilty at a jury trial of firing a shotgun near law enforcement during a domestic dispute almost one year ago.

When Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home in Newfield on April 15th, 2023, they were told by the victim that the suspect, Richard Marks, Junior had fled into nearby woods on a UTV. As deputies searched for Marks, the 39-year-old pointed a shotgun at them and fired two rounds. He was convicted of two counts of menacing a police officer and single counts of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal contempt.

Marks will be sentenced on June 5th
