A local man faces charges after he allegedly struck an inmate while working as a probationary corrections officer at the Tompkins County Jail.
Mark Vanderhoof allegedly hit an inmate in the back of the head and face with an open hand while they were seated at a table in their housing unit. After an investigation deemed the use of force to be unjustified, the Union Springs man was fired and also charged with official misconduct and harassment.
