Penn Yan Police say they are continuing to review an incident that happened one week ago in the village when a 16-year-old boy riding an electric bike struck the side of a delivery van that was pulling into Byrne Dairy.
An initial investigation showed the teen was riding his bike at a high rate of speed on the sidewalk last Monday when he failed to yield to the truck. The unidentified bicyclist was wedged underneath the van until bystanders and first responders were able to remove him.
The 16-year-old was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has been released.
Police say the driver of the van, who also was not identified, was making a lawful turn when the accident occurred.
Penn Yan Police were assisted by the Penn Yan Fire Department, Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Yates County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
