Members of SUNY Corning Community College’s leadership team and representatives from Subaru University announced an automotive program partnership. Under the new partnership, SUNY CCC’s automotive program will offer manufacturer-level training to students and instructors along with job placement and internships through Subaru-U.
“Students that come to us, it’s not lack of determination or lack of ability that keeps them from being successful, it’s a lack of access to resources,” said SUNY CCC President Dr. William Mullaney. “The fact that a program like this can provide them with tuition, money for tools, and then access to employers before graduation really changes their lives, and that’s really what we’re all about.”
Students in CCC’s 30-week automotive technician program will graduate this summer as Level 1-2 Subaru-trained technicians which will open the door for apprenticeships for participating Subaru retailers. The partnership also included a generous donation of a 2024 Subaru vehicle with 1,500 miles for CCC students to use for educational purposes at its Airport Corporate Park location.
“We’re working on training students so they can start a successful career in the automotive industry,” said SUNY CCC Automotive Technician Program instructor Jason Kellogg. “Subaru was gracious in donating a 2024 Subaru Outback. So, that’s going to help with student education, exposing them to new technology.”
