Steuben Sheriff’s Looking Into Claim Men Dressed As Police Attempted to Seize Homeowner’s Guns

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is looking into a resident’s claim that two men claiming to be police appeared at their home and attempted to seize the homeowner’s weapons.

The individuals involved in the alleged incident on Wednesday were reportedly driving a dark blue panel-type van, with a sliding side door. The van had a white magnetic-type star on the passenger side door. The duo was described as wearing gray uniforms, with black stripes along the trouser leg. The uniforms appeared to have a fabric badge on the chest, and the individuals wore blue ball caps with a gold star emblem on the hat.

The first suspect is described as a 5’9″ white male, with a stocky build, blue eyes, and a reddish color goatee. The second male is described as tall and black and was wearing an identical uniform and hat.

After a brief conversation with the homeowner, the two men left the area. The Sheriff’s Office has not received any similar complaints
