Steuben County Welcomes New COs Including 8 Fired by NYS

SHARE NOW

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department recently welcomed 16 new employees to its Jail Division. The group includes eight Correctional Officers who transferred from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

Last month, Sheriff Jim Allard had said his department was looking to hire at least eight COs who were fired by the state after taking part in wildcat strikes that sought better working conditions inside New York’s prisons.  The employees were fired after they failed to return to work at the order of Governor Kathy Hochul.

In addition to the new Jail Division, the Sheriff’s Department welcomed a new Special Patrol Deputy assigned to the Navigation Unit and a part-time investigator who will work with the Department of Social Services.
