The Executive Order issued by Governor Kathy Hochul this week that barred Corrections Officer who participated in the wildcat strike and didn’t return to work from ever being able to seek a job in New York’s public sector is receiving pushback from leaders in several counties, including one locally.
Steuben County Legislature Chairwoman Kelly Fitzpatrick and Sheriff Jim Allard sent a letter to the Governor asking her to listen to the voices of local leaders across the state and take the necessary steps to right this wrong. They called Governor Hochul’s Executive Order “ill conceived” and said at a time when local governments are grappling with severe staffing shortages and the need for qualified, experienced personnel, the stance by the Governor only exacerbates the crisis.
