Steuben County Sheriff’s Seeking Help Patrolling Lakes

If you know a retired police officer, or a current police officer, who might be interested in part-time work this summer, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office would like to hear from them. The department is looking for help in the summertime patroling Keuka and Waneta lakes.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the work involves responsibility for protecting lives and enforcing NYS Laws both in the enforcement of boating laws and ordinances on navigable waterways of the county during the summer recreational season. On an assigned navigation patrol shift, the incumbent may navigate by patrol boat to ensure orderly and safe boating practices. All work is performed under the general supervision of the established chain of command of the Sheriff’s Office. The Undersheriff shall give specific instructions and assistance for navigation patrol assignments. Does related work as required.

The starting salary is $20 an hour.
