A 21-year-old Steuben County man was killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday morning. It happened east of the South Main Street on-ramp to Interstate 86 in Horseheads just before the State Route 13 overpass shortly after 8 o’clock.
Witnesses told police Andrew Davis, of Campbell, was operating his crotch rocket erratically and at a high rate speed just before the accident. As Davis approached the I-86 eastbound on-ramp, another car merged onto the Interstate. Witnesses say Davis sped up and passed the merged car on the right-hand shoulder, causing him to kick up dirt and gravel. Davis then lost control of his motorcycle, crossed the Interstate, and struck a concrete jersey barrier. He was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the road. Investigators say the motorcycle skidded approximately 150 yards further down the Interstate before coming to a stop.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.
