The Steuben County man who shot his wife in the face just over one year ago pleaded guilty in court this week just as his trial was scheduled to begin.
On December 13, 2023, Terry Long, Junior, was arrested after he shot his wife inside their Wagner Hill Road home and was charged with assault. The Steuben County District Attorney’s Office said Long claimed another person had been the shooter, but statements from the victim, along with facts in the case, pointed to the Avoca man as being the person who shot the woman with a 12 gauge shotgun, loaded with buckshot, during an argument. The victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and recovered. She is credited with working with investigators and prosecutors in the case.
When sentenced in April, Long could receive almost ten years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
