A Steuben County man is facing charges after he allegedly threw a machete at a Trooper.
State Police said it happened when they responded to a reported disturbance in the town of Caton. As Dana McCarrick was being interviewed, the 49-year-old grabbed a machete from a box and displayed it to the trooper. McCarrick was given several verbal commands to put the weapon down when he threw it toward the trooper and then took off.
The Corning man was eventually taken into custody and charged with the crime of terrorism, menacing a police officer as a felony, as well as felony criminal possession of a weapon and several misdemeanors.
McCarrick was sent to Steuben County Jail to await arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
