Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputies were commended by Sheriff Jim Allard during a ceremony before the county Legislature’s Public Safety and Corrections Committee.
According to Sheriff James Allard, on December 13, Deputy Andrews and Deputy Owen responded to a report of a cardiac arrest of a 36-year-old male. Deputy Andrews assessed the patient, who had no pulse, and began CPR. Deputy Owen began rescue breathing and assisted in chest compressions. Deputy Robinson and Deputy Bush as well as local ambulance personnel arrived to assist. Deputies continued CPR for fifty minutes, at which time the patient was able to be transported by ambulance personnel to a local medical facility.
“Although the patient did not survive the night, the teamwork and lifesaving actions of these deputies were exemplary and beyond normal expectations”, Allard said.
“I commend Deputy Andrews and Deputy Owen for their professionalism, leadership, and service. Not only did you display lifesaving skills in medical assessment and treatment, but you also showed an unwillingness to give up on your patient.” Allard added, in his commendation.
