Steuben County Courthouse Turns Red to Support Firefighters

SHARE NOW
Steuben County is proudly lighting up its County Courthouse in red this week to honor and support New York’s dedicated volunteer firefighters — and to shine a light on the growing need for more volunteers across the state.
This is part of the statewide “Light Up NY Red” campaign led by FASNY, running through April 27th, and building up to RecruitNY Weekend on April 26–27.
Over the last two decades, New York has seen a 33% decline in volunteer firefighter numbers, leaving just 80,000 active volunteers statewide. The “Light Up NY Red” campaign seeks to spotlight the vital role these individuals play in protecting their communities and to inspire others to join the ranks.

“We are proud to participate in this important initiative,” said Tim Marshall – Steuben County Director Of Public Safety. “Lighting our courthouse red symbolizes our deep appreciation for the dedicated men and women who volunteer their time and risk their lives to keep our communities safe.” Marshall said.

Residents and businesses throughout Steuben County are encouraged to show their support by:

  • Lighting their homes and storefronts with red lights
  • Swapping out porch lights for red bulbs
  • Sharing photos of their displays to support volunteer recruitment
    efforts
  • FASNY also invites the public to submit photos of their red-lit homes, firehouses, or businesses with a short caption to [email protected] for possible inclusion in their statewide magazine and social media platforms.
