State Police Investigate Bathroom Fire at Dryden School

SHARE NOW

The New York State Police, in coordination with District Safety Personnel, are actively investigating an incident that occurred Wednesday at approximately 12:00 p.m. at the Dryden Middle School and High School campus involving a small fire.

The fire originated in a trash can inside a single-stall bathroom and was quickly contained and extinguished by the Dryden Fire Department. While the fire itself was limited to a small area, the building could not immediately be reoccupied due to issues resetting the fire alarm system. A technician from Johnson Controls later arrived on site, resolved the alarm issues, and the Fire Department subsequently turned the building back over to the District.

The District’s Environmental Health and Safety Officer from TST BOCES has inspected the building and determined it is safe for occupancy. Required documentation related to the incident will be filed with New York State. As a precaution, the single-stall bathroom involved will remain closed and locked for the remainder of the week.

All schools in the Dryden School District will open in person and on time Thursday.

The District is cooperating fully with the New York State Police investigation and will provide updates as appropriate. We thank our students and staff PK–12 for their cooperation and flexibility, and we extend our gratitude to the Dryden Fire Department, TC3 Public Safety Officers, TC3 staff, and all first responders for their prompt and professional response.
