11 a.m. UPDATE:
“Due to the recent storms containing heavy and concentrated rains, and the subsequent rise in lake level, a potential for damage to property exists on the shorelines of Keuka, Waneta, and Lamoka lakes. Due to floating and submerged debris, a potential danger to safety also exists. Yates County Sheriff Frank Ryan, Schuyler County Sheriff Kevin Rumsey, and Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard are advising a complete cessation of boating traffic on Keuka, Waneta and Lamoka lakes until the lake levels recede to protect both property and life.”
The Yates County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Boaters Advisory for Keuka Lake.
Following Monday night’s heavy rains, Sheriff Francis Ryan said many of the creeks and gullies around the lakes have washed assorted debris, trees, and limbs into the lakes. These storm-related issues cause hazards to navigation due to high brown water. Boaters are cautioned to be observant of floating debris in the water and reduce speeds.
Sheriff Ryan reiterated that it is New York State Navigation Law to be no more than five miles per hour within 200 feet of shore on Keuka Lake.
Also, State Route 54 is now open and passable from the village of Penn Yan, south to the Yates Steuben county line. There are still sections in the 1100 block of Lower East Lake Road that are obstructed
Schuyler County Sheriff Kevin Rumsey and Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard are advising that, because of the potential damage that exists to property on the shorelines of Waneta and Lamoka lakes, there is a complete boating ban until the lake levels recede
