Unemployment for the month of June in Yates County came in at 2.6%, a slight increase from the 2.4% rate recorded in May. There was no budge in Schuyler County’s jobless numbers as it remained at 3 percent in June.
Other local unemployment numbers for June were 3.2 percent in Steuben County, 3 percent in Tompkins, and 2.8 percent in both Seneca and Ontario counties. Statewide, unemployment for last month was 3.9 percent.
The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month. Labor force statistics, including the unemployment rate, for New York and every other state are based on statistical regression models specified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. These are the most up-to-date estimates of persons employed and unemployed by place of residence. Estimates are available for New York State, labor market regions, metropolitan areas, counties, and municipalities with a population of at least 25,000.
