Hector Town Supervisor Justin Boyette has been sentenced to 15 days in jail following a February 2024 incident in which his vehicle was found in a ditch on State Route 414 in Hector.
The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office initially charged Boyette with felony DWI due to a prior conviction within the past decade. However, he was ultimately convicted of Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, a lesser violation.
In addition to his jail sentence, Boyette’s driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and he has been ordered to pay a $500 fine.
Yates County District Attorney Todd Casella was named special prosecutor in the case. He said the sentence handed down was the maximum that could be imposed for the violation.
Casella told Finger Lakes Daily News the judge in the case had “some harsh words for the defendant based on the self-serving nature of his comments at sentencing and his failure to appreciate the danger he posed to the community.”
Boyette took over as town supervisor in February of 2022 following the death of Alvin White. He was elected to the position in November of 2023.
