Schuyler County has the fifth largest veteran community in the state and now the county is working to shine a light, a green light, on veterans issues.
In November, the County is participating in “Operation Green Light,” a statewide effort that encourages residents, businesses, and local governments to display green lights on their homes and buildings during the week of Veterans Day. Operation Green Light was created to show support for veterans of military conflicts and remind them that resources are available to help them.
“In an effort to have as many green lights on display throughout the community as possible, Schuyler County is distributing free green light bulbs to residents,” Crystal Kawski, Veterans Director said. According to Kawski, the lights are available at the Schuyler County Veterans Service Office at 323 Owego Street in Montour Falls.
Operation Green Light is a collaboration between the New York State Association of Counties, the New York State County Executives Association, and the NYS County Veteran Service Officers’ Association
