The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office is urging caution for anyone heading out on the water following recent rainfall that has caused lake levels to rise above normal. The elevated water levels have created potentially dangerous conditions, including strong currents and floating debris.
Officials are also reminding boaters to be mindful of private property and shoreline erosion. Anyone operating watercraft at wake-producing speeds is advised to stay at least 500 feet from the shoreline. The Sheriff’s Office also asks boaters to avoid generating wakes near docks, homes, and other sensitive waterfront areas to help prevent further damage.
Boaters are encouraged to stay alert and prioritize safety while conditions remain elevated.
