Unemployment went up by more than one percent last month in Schuyler County compared to November.
The county ended 2023 with a jobless rate of 5.3 percent, which is up from 4.1 percent in November. Yates County also saw its unemployment go up from 3.3 percent in November to 3.9 percent last month. Also for December, Steuben County’s unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, Tompkins County’s 3.5 percent, and Ontario County’s 3.8 percent.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the entire state went from 4.3 percent in November to 4.5 percent last month.
