While investigating a reported burglary in Horseheads over the weekend, State Police say they discovered the body of a Schuyler County man in a pond.
At around 10 Saturday night, troopers responded to 2435 Prospect Hill Road and found an open garage with several damaged items inside as well as a vehicle in the driveway that had been sideswiped. Troopers also located tire tracks leading across the lawn toward a pond. That is where they found a white Subaru submerged in the water with a non-responsive driver inside. 84-year-old William Olin, of Beaver Dams, was pronounced dead on scene.
The Chemung County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and ordered the deceased to be transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to the incident. No further details are available at this time.
State Police were assisted on the scene by the Big Flats and Wellsburg Fire Departments.
