The Schuyler County Historical Society has launched a public fundraising campaign to raise $300,000 to complete its “Accessibility for All” renovation and historic preservation project at the Brick Tavern Museum.
The project, which aims to make the Montour Falls museum fully accessible, includes the installation of an elevator for second-floor access, expanded exhibit spaces, a new archive room, and improved workspaces. Schuyler County Legislator Jim Howell and his wife, Bonnie, will serve as honorary campaign chairs and play an active role in fundraising efforts.
The Historical Society originally planned a $1.2 million renovation and has already secured $913,000 of the needed funds through grants and other sources. However, additional asbestos abatement in the museum’s library and improvements to the parking lot for wheelchair accessibility have increased the project cost to $1.3 million.
