Saunders Finger Lakes Museum Welcomes Paddlers with EZ Dock

SHARE NOW

The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum has hosted paddling programs at its museum location for several years. These programs include lessons, free community paddles, kayak instructor training, and guided evening paddles. As program participation increased alongside expanded offerings, it became evident that upgrading the dock was necessary to accommodate the uptick in visitor traffic. After months of planning, the customized EZ Dock was carefully designed for the best, most efficient way to get in and out of Sugar Creek alongside the edge of the museum property. With a wide gantry, 2 easy-to-use ports, and an accessible transfer system with a support grab rail, this new docking system makes paddling accessible for all skill levels and abilities.

Thanks to a generous donation by longtime SFLM supporters, Tom and Carolyn Argust, this EZ Dock allows for smoother paddling for programs and museum visitors. The launch is open from dawn to dusk and is free to use, as are several other assets available on the museum’s 30-acre property. The Yates County site boasts a wetlands property with interpretive signage, a 200 ft. boardwalk leading to an octagon pavilion, a natural playscape for kids of all ages, and an outdoor 11 Lakes exhibit, which shares fun facts and stories of the cultural and natural history of the lakes of the region.

The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum is dedicated to inspiring appreciation and celebrating the cultures and ecology of the vast Finger Lakes Region. The museum site is currently under construction as they build out their main museum exhibit hall, living out their mission through various programs and site offerings.
