January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month and some might be surprised to learn that it is an issue being dealt with here in the Finger Lakes.
Human Trafficking is defined as a crime involving the exploitation of someone for the purposes of compelled labor or a commercial sex act through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. Melissa Gilbert is the Child Advocacy Coordinator with Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes.
Melissa says a lot of the parents she speaks with have concerns about their child’s online activity.
To learn more about human trafficking, you can attend “Human Trafficking 101 Training” tonight (Monday) from 5-6 pm at Bristol Library. This event is free and there is no registration required.
