Yates County has scheduled public information meeting to discuss the two options for a new Natural Gas Service Main to the recently approved county Highway/Office of Emergency Services and Public Health facility in Benton Center. The two options that will be discussed are:
- New Natural Gas Service Main from Pre-emption Road along Havens Corners Road to Benton Center.
- New Natural Gas Service Main from Stape Road along State Route 14A to Benton Center.
The public information meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Benton Firehouse.
After the Yates County Legislature gave the okay for the project to move forward earlier this month, Legislator Doug Paddock asked to postpone a vote to provide natural gas service to the new facility instead of using propane. Benton Town Supervisor Jack Prendergast made a similar request during the public comment period of the same legislature meeting. Paddock wanted to wait until a public meeting, which was not scheduled at that time, to make a decision on spending almost $1.7 million for the service. The cost could decrease if some business owners and residents in Benton are able to tap into the gas line. Paddock’s request was denied.
