A Steuben County man will soon appear in criminal court after police claim he stole a dog, sold it, and then claimed it had died.
Scott Casterline is accused of doing this while working as a contracted Dog Control Officer for the city of Corning. An investigation determined that the dog was sold in Ohio. It was retrieved and returned to its rightful owner.
Casterline, who is 51 years old and from Lindley, was charged with official misconduct, misapplication of property, and submitting a false written statement.
