Police in Tompkins County are investigating what has been labeled as a “suspicious incident” after a Cornell University Police Officer received a report of a person in the 500 block of University Avenue holding a semi-automatic style handgun Wednesday morning.
The individual was reported to be a college-aged Asian male, dressed in black clothing. When a witness confronted the man, he reportedly ran northeast on University Avenue and then went in an unknown direction. The individual has not yet been located.
New York State Police is assisting Ithaca Police, Cornell University Police, and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

This situation comes less than 24 hours after a student at Cornell was arrested for allegedly making antisemitic threats towards Jewish students on the Ithaca campus.
