Ithaca Police are investigating a threat made against the Tompkins County Department of Social Services that prompted a building lockdown on Wednesday.
Officers responded around 10:10 a.m. to the agency’s office at 320 West State Street after staff reported receiving a suspicious email containing a threat of violence. As a precaution, the building was placed on lockdown for most of the day while authorities investigated.
At this time, police say there is no evidence suggesting the threat is credible, and there is no cause for public concern. The Tompkins County Department of Social Services reopened to the public shortly after 2. The Department is expected to provide additional updates as needed.
