Yates County Sheriff’s deputies and New York State Police responded to Keuka College early this morning following a report of a possible armed individual on campus.
At approximately 12:54 a.m., authorities were dispatched after receiving information about a conversation on the social media platform YikYak that referenced a male carrying a backpack and a gun and entering a campus building. As a precaution, the college was placed on lockdown.
Deputies arrived on scene within about four minutes, and law enforcement remained on campus for several hours conducting searches and interviews. Following the investigation, officials determined there was no credible threat to the campus or the surrounding community.
The lockdown has since been lifted, and normal campus operations have resumed. Law enforcement officials say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to determine the source and circumstances of the report.
