A naked woman was taken into police custody Monday morning after she reportedly entered the Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca with a gun.
One of the staff told police the woman pointed the gun at them before they were able to get out of the North Geneva Street building. Police found the woman on the altar and took her into custody when they determined she had nothing in her hands. A replica Smith and Wesson BB gun and a knife were found on the alter table.
Police say the woman was suffering from a mental health crisis and was taken to the Cayuga Medical Center for medical evaluation. There are no charges pending and no additional information, including her name, is being released at this time.
