A young farmer from Penn Yan is making big waves in New York’s agriculture scene. Clark Simmons, a proud member of the Penn Yan chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), has officially been inducted into the New York State FFA Hall of Fame — a milestone that celebrates years of dedication, hard work, and a passion for farming that runs deep in his roots.
Clark represents the third generation of Simmons to work the family land at Simmons Vineyards. He’s been by his father and grandfather’s side since he was just 10 years old, learning the ins and outs of grape production — from pruning and trellising to running harvesting crews and handling equipment. Over time, he not only honed his agricultural skills but also took on leadership roles and earned important certifications, including those from the EPA.
But Clark hasn’t just stayed put. He’s combined his hands-on experience with off-the-farm education and new opportunities to fuel his growing career in agriculture. In December 2023, he reached a major milestone by purchasing the first five acres of his very own vineyard — a bold step toward continuing his family’s legacy in his own way.
Clark’s commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed. He won the prestigious National FFA Fruit Production Proficiency Award in 2022, and in 2024, he was chosen to represent New York as a candidate for a National Star in Agricultural Placement — one of the highest honors in the FFA.
During his Hall of Fame induction this week at the FFA State Convention at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, speakers praised Clark as “the kind of example all student FFA members can look to, no matter their goals.” With a track record like his, Clark Simmons is sure to remain a standout role model in agriculture for years to come.
