The Penn Yan school district is no different than a majority of school districts not only in New York State but the entire country when it comes to dealing with a shortage of bus drivers. David Mulberger is Penn Yan’s Director of Transportation. He tells us what his staffing currently looks like.
David explains the process someone has to go through if they are interested in becoming a school bus driver.
How long does that entire process take?
Nearly 1,700 students are transported daily to the three Penn Yan schools, as well as 15 private and parochial schools. The district has 16 local bus routes that service the elementary, middle, and high schools. It also has eight special needs routes, two are in the district and the remaining six go to out-of-town districts.
If you are interested in becoming a bus driver and would like more information, you can stop by the school district’s transportation office.
