Penn Yan School District Names Next Superintendent

After dedicating nearly a decade as its Assistant Superintendent for Instruction & Staff Development, Dr. Gregory Baker will soon begin a new role with the Penn Yan School District. The Penn Yan School Board has named Dr. Baker as the District’s next Superintendent. He will assume the responsibilities on January 1st when Howard Dennis retires.

“On behalf of the entire school board, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Penn Yan community for actively engaging and providing valuable feedback and insight throughout the process which was instrumental in guiding our decision-making,” stated David Willson, Board of Education President. It was important to the board of education that we articulated and followed a process to bring the community the very best leader for Penn Yan CSD. As we navigated this journey, it became clear to the board of education that Dr. Baker’s extensive experience and unwavering commitment to our district aligned perfectly with the needs of our school community, making him the right candidate for this important role. The process and your valuable feedback confirmed that Dr. Baker is the right leader, at the right time, for the right reasons for Penn Yan CSD.”

According to the District, in Dr. Baker’s current role, he designed and coordinated the PK-12 program of instruction while fostering strong relationships with staff, students, and community members. Dr. Baker led initiatives focused on the continuous improvement of student learning and staff development. The District also stated his leadership experience also includes serving as Director of Educational Services at Lyons Central School and as a Reading Specialist for Byron-Bergen School. Throughout his career,  Dr.Baker has emphasized academic excellence and community engagement, consistently working to enhance instructional practices and support all learners.

“I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to continue serving the Penn Yan community as Superintendent of Schools,” stated Dr. Baker. “My goal now and in the future will be to lead through a lens of deep respect and admiration for those I serve. With a focus on academic excellence, fostering the whole child, and supporting staff, we remain committed to our mission of Engaging, Educating, Empowering, and Enriching, Every Student, Every Day. I am excited to continue working collaboratively with our school community to build on our successes and tackle future challenges, and I promise to continue to enhance and support the greatness we have here at Penn Yan District on behalf of our Mustang Community!”

Dr. Baker will assume the responsibilities of the Penn Yan Central School District Superintendent position on January 1, 2025.
