The Penn Yan Police Department is reminding drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts as part of the upcoming national Click It or Ticket campaign.
The high-visibility seat belt enforcement effort starts on Monday and runs through June 1, and coincides with the busy Memorial Day holiday travel period. During the campaign, Penn Yan Police will have additional officers on patrol, specifically focused on ensuring seat belt compliance.
The department says the goal is to raise awareness about the importance of buckling up and to reduce injuries and fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. Officers will be looking for drivers and passengers who are not properly restrained and may issue tickets to violators.
“Seat belts save lives,” Penn Yan Police said in a statement. “We want everyone to make it to their destination safely.”
