Penn Yan Police Chief on Murder-Suicide: “We Feel Really Bad for the Whole Family”

SHARE NOW

Local authorities are still trying to determine what led to this week’s apparent murder-suicide that happened in the village of Penn Yan.

When police responded to a Franklin Street home Tuesday night, they found 37-year-old Michael Personale dead of multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and head and Ashley Manaco, his 38-year-old wife, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the neck. We asked Police Chief Thomas Dunham if there was any history of police activity involving the couple.

“No, there was no history with our department going there for any type of domestic incidents or anything like that, ” said Chief Dunham.

Chief Dunham said it was a tragedy for everyone involved, especially the teenage daughter of Ashley Manaco.

“We feel really bad for the whole family.  We’ve spent the last couple of days with them and it’s really been a tough time for everyone.”

After their investigation started, Chief Dunham said his department began reaching out to local agencies to provide support to those affected by the incident. He reminded us that help is available for those who need it.

“If you dial 988, it’s a suicide prevention line and they can hook you up with assistance for help. So if you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts, please know there is help out there.”

The bodies of the deceased were transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
